They both scored 46 runs to win the game.
In the ninth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8, James Neesham and Rovman Powell rescued Peshawar Zalmi after Mohammad Hasnain’s early destruction with the ball.
The two batters combined for a match-saving 46 runs as Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by four wickets in their second win of the competition.
After setting Zalmi a target of 155 runs, Hasnain helped Gladiators get off to a solid start with the ball, taking three quick wickets within the powerplay.
Hasnain picked up Mohammad Haris, Saim Ayub, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore in short succession, giving Gladiators a good opportunity.
But, Gladiators lost control of the innings after Powell and Neesham took over. Powell received a 36, while Neesham received the highest score of 37 for Zalmi.
Hasnain bowled excellently for Gladiators, picking up three wickets in four overs and bowling a maiden in the last over.
Qais Ahmed, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Nawaz each had one wicket.
Previously, Iftikhar Ahmed demonstrated his worth by scoring a hard-fought fifty for Gladiators.
The Gladiators, who batted first, lost three wickets for 37 runs in nine overs. Their openers got off to a sluggish start after Zalmi bowlers took control of the game early on.
As Gladiators faced the heat, Jason Roy (14), Martin Guptill (12), and Muhammad Nawaz (2) walked off. But, skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and Iftikhar joined forces to use their experience and maybe save the match for the squad in purple.
They both scored 74 runs off 50 balls until Arshad Iqbal dismissed Sarfaraz in the 17th over.
Sarfaraz’s dismissal imposed no strain on Iftikhar, who continued to score for his team. He hit his fourth PSL fifty in in 34 balls. Sarfaraz, on the other hand, scored 38 runs with five boundaries.
Iftikhar stayed unbeaten for 50 runs, including four maximums and two boundaries. Odean Smith finished with a cameo of 25 off 12 balls.
Usman Qadir took two wickets for Zalmi, while James Neesham and Arshad each took one.
